Find Inspiration in every step of your journey...

What can you find at EWA?

Energy Works ATL is a socially and environmentally responsible approach to health created by a massage therapist and a clinical social worker. Our office, services, multidisciplinary team, and products aim to support and enhance every individual's well-being regardless of their age, abilities, race, sexual orientation, or belief system.

To help grow each person into their best potential we pose ourselves as partners in their process of change and facilitate the integration of the four main dimensions of being: mind, body, spirit, and community .

What can we do for you?

Our purpose is to help every individual improve their health by giving them evidence-based tools that address their body, mind, and spirit. In other words, we want people to become aware of their body-mind connection and learn how to use it to enhance their own wellbeing. All religions and beliefs are welcome, since we feel respect, love, and kindness are at the base of every belief system. And that is what we want to cultivate at our EWA community, a place where different backgrounds, experiences, and languages meet to learn from one another and grow together.

This is our story...

The story of Energy Works ATL (EWA) is one of love. Love for life, for adventure, and for exploration, both outward and inward. It is about family love and the kinds of friendships that remind you that family goes beyond blood. It is about self-love, love for what surrounds you, and for what you do every day of your life.

I was taking over 12 prescriptions for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, anxiety, depression, and pain, and had been dealing with back pain for as long as I could remember. The first time I went to a chiropractor I was told I have an extra vertebra (a 6th lumbar), which creates pressure in my spine and was presented as something I could not change, something I had to learn to live with or maybe improve through surgery. However, I was already so busy putting one foot in front of the other, simply trying to keep my family afloat, that I just kept taking medications to “get by” and tolerate the pain. Then, my husband was injured in 2006. He was a police officer who stopped to help a car accident on his way home. After checking on the people involved in the accident and calling the accident in, he started to divert the traffic from the accident scene. When the ambulance responding to the accident arrived, the driver backed out without seeing my husband, and hit him. The ambulance was partially on top of him for several seconds, causing a spinal injury.... In 2008 he got a spinal surgery that relieved the spinal stenosis and he started his long way into recovery. In the midst of all this happening, he had to take retirement for disability and quit his dream with only half of his already very low salary. Partially triggered by that 2006 accident, my husband was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2012. At that time I had a very demanding, high-stress, management-level job in the aviation industry. I was very successful at it. However, the stress was deeply affecting my well being without me even knowing it, and it was manifesting all through my body. Yes... high cholesterol, high blood pressure, chronic pain, and many other ailments can be caused by the high levels of stress, and I learned it the hard way. In 2011 my world collapsed when my older daughter, then 11, started struggling with severe anxiety and depression to the point of wanting to hurt herself. My youngest daughter was struggling at school and isolating herself. So I realized it wasn’t only me; my family was also falling apart, despite all my hard work to keep it all together. Then, I also lost my job. My company had been acquired and the new management let go of all the managers in the building. I had never been “fired” in my life, and that was the final straw, the knockout. Here is when my niece Karla, my “first child” as I like to call her, came from Colombia to help me. She had just graduated from one of the best universities in Colombia, with a full academic scholarship, as a psychologist. She came to stay with me although I wasn’t sure how she was going to be able to change what seemed like a very dark tunnel without an end. And the answer turned out to be therapy, both physical and psychological. I felt, for the first time in many years, like I wasn’t alone, like I could unload everything I had been carrying for such a long time on my own. We cried, we laughed, and eventually I started to remember… to remember who I was! Who I wanted to be. We did so much therapy and that helped me a lot. I had been taking anxiety and depression medications for about 12 years and I felt “numb”…I cried a lot. And then I cried some more, but slowly I started feeling alive again. I started feeling again my energy and my emotions. Around the same time, I also met an incredibly talented massage therapist that helped me enormously. He also started teaching and reminding me about the body, how it is affected by our daily activities, our emotions, stress, and even thoughts. And so I started remembering how to ground and center myself and I started doing it regularly. I understood for the first time that the only way for me to help my family was to help myself first, and that is how I started reconnecting with my inner healer. When I was young, my mom taught me a lot about energy healing. I learn to place my hands on people and heal them. I learn to hear with my “other ears” to the unspoken words and to “see with my other eyes”. I learned how to tap into other people’s energy to help them heal. I was able to see beautiful colors inside and around a person and connect to them. However, I stopped practicing healing when I came to the US to study. Nobody around me knew anything about energy healing and I was already overwhelmed with being an immigrant in a new country, having to learn a new culture, a new language, new people, and a new way of life. Without even realizing it, I started to close my connection to my own spirituality. Since healing is something that is a part of me, I kept healing my family and close friends when needed, but it was sporadic and it started to dispel. With Karla helping me to balance my life again and remembering this part of me, I started to study again and reconnect with my healing abilities and my passion.. I reconnected to the energy we all carry inside and now I have a clear purpose for my abilities. Now I have reawakened. I have come back stronger and fully focused on what I really want to do: to serve others as an ally to help them heal and awake too. I want to show people that we are more than what we think we are, we are much more than just ourselves; that we are all connected, and that we are all part of the same universal energy. Once you understand and see this, you can tap into other aspects of yourself that help you live a more happy, balanced, and purposeful life. Our job, EWA’s goal, is to show you how to do it and accompany you on yours and your family’s journeys. To help you heal, either mentally, physically, or spiritually and show you how to keep yourself strong. Hopefully this will then trickle down through our community and many more, so we can all live in a more peaceful and loving world. Energy Works is my life path. It is my dream and now my job. And I want to share it with you. With much love, Alex
